Germany's Dissatisfaction

During World War I there were two opposing sides, the Allies and the Central Powers. A military strategy that England had was to make a blockade, when ships block or make a line to prevent a country from importing or exporting goods.. Because of this, Germany was upset with England. Germany couldn't import or export weapons, military supplies, or even food.

Germany was also upset with the United States. Since the United States couldn't send in goods to Germany and they didn't challenge the British Blockade because these two countries were at peace with each other and the U.S. didnt want to join the war, there for they didn't challenge the British the Germans were mad with the U.S. The U.S. then couldn't import foodstuffs, or fertilizer for crops. This led to famine in 1917 where about 750,000 Germans starved to death because of the blockade.

Germany felt the need to get rid of the blockade themselves, therefore they used U-boats, (German submarine), to sink the ships blocking them from the rest of the world. The Germans would sink many British ships claiming their ammunition, or bullets/rounds, or other weapons. However those ships were not military ships, they had both British and American civilians inside. On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat sank the British liner, the Lusitania. They claimed it contained ammunition, when it really claimed more than 1,000 civilians. Of the 1,198 civilians, 128 of them were American citizens. This lead to the American public being against the Central Powers.

Woodrow Wilson, a president of the United States, wanted, " a peace without victory... a peace between equals." He basically didn't want war with Germany or the other countries from harming each other. One of Wilsons goals was to have all countries join a "league for peace" to extend democracy, keep the freedom of the seas, and reduce weapons. In other words he wanted a "League of Nations" however that did not do anything to stop World War II from happening, and even after world war two the League of Nations had very little power and influence.

After experiencing the treacheries of The Great War, Americans quickly gained many fears in the years that followed. Some of the more prominent fears that developed were such fears of immigrants, the world around them, and changes in their ideals.

Their fears of immigrants and those not native to America came about from the U.S. Having to send soldiers across an ocean to fight a war that they attempted to stay out of. This problem grew over time, and eventually led to the formation of the Klu-Klux-Klan. The klan or KKK are a group of white males of European ancestry who were born in America, are there enemies.

Idealism or the Idea of the perfect world also caused a stir in the public. As a radical ideal such as communism developed and gained recognition, a,Erica s feared that their way of life would be taken from them.

The League of Nations was an early version of what the United Nations is today., however the league was very weak in comparison. Proposed by the U.S. After World War 1, the main goal of the league was to prevent any more world wars from happening. However even though the U.S. organized the League, they were not members.

Why did the U.S. joined WW1?

There are many ideas out there about what started World War 1, however the main reasons were a Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the formation of Alliances. These alliances were The Allies and the The Central Powers. The Allies consisted of France, Rusia, and Great Britain and eventually the U.S. The Triple Entante consisted of Germany, Austria Hungary, Italy and the Ottoman Empire. The reason for why WW1 started was that every country wanted something different. This war was known because it was the first major war in which many countries from different continents fought each other. Also the fighting style was different because they fought by using Trench Warfare. Trenches were holes in the floor in which soldiers would live in. Often times these holes were small, dirty and infested with rats and cockroaches.
These are how trenches look. This image shows the pros and cons of trenches.
Americans didn't want to join the war at the time because  they thought it was far and also because they didn't want support capitalism and imperialism acts. Though out the war England, France and Russia borrow money from The U.S. and to ensure that the U.S. would get his money they decided to join the war and help the allies win the war.
These are the countries that were part of the allies before the U.S.  joined the war.
To me the most interesting about WW1 was that countries used a different style of fighting which was Trench warfare. World War 1 was important because it was the first war in which many countries fought. Before doing this blog I did not know how the U.S. joined the war but now I know the reasons for why we joined the war.

In 2015 we still have wars however our wars are more effective because we have to kill less people and also we have less casualties. We have drones, missiles, and nuclear weapons. Lastly we don't need to physically put people in the middle of a war because we have computer controlled weapons.

The Allies won the war because the U.S. joined the Allies side and help them defeat Germany. Since the U.S. Was fresh and with lots of money to spend in the war it was easy for them to take Germany out.
